Almost done with our study of Dolphins. Today was a bit unsettled. We were going to have a power wheelchair ramp put in. One book and a couple of short videos into our homeschooling day the workmen came.
My very friendly kids kept running to the door sticking their heads out yelling “HI!” “How are you?” “Thank you!” That pretty much brought us down to a full halt. The older kids continued until they finished. The younger kids were stuck to the windows watching the workmen.
The workmen finally decided that the ramp couldn’t be put in today so they left. After that let down the little ones came back to finish the day’s work. Less enthusiastically then before they were ready to watch my front porch get chopped up.
Today I could tell we were almost done with the study. Most of the little booklets and fold ups are done. We have lots of little pieces to finish and glue into place tomorrow. The kids know quite a bit about dolphins, geography, oceans, mammals, and sound waves. I am sure there is more I am missing. The great part about doing a study like this is we cover LOTS of ground and I highlight certain aspects that I really feel the kids need to learn such as mammals and Animal Kingdom classifications. Then the kids naturally pick up on information they really enjoy.
Here is a simple folded booklet. The Dolphin colors are completed. Then the 2 large pieces are glued together. Then folded into a single crayons showing booklet. Then you glue the bottom piece to the file folder. To keep things together and neat I sometimes use a paperclip to keep the folded booklet together.
