If today had a title it would be, The day the pre-schooler attacked! This morning my little ball of energy snuck upstairs and started her lapbooking at 6am. She told me it was morning and time to homeschool, as if that explained everything. I am going to get a motion a censor cow that moos when ever anyone goes upstairs this weekend!
Other than that, today went smoothly. We have a fair amount of information about dolphins under our belt now and can start putting together the pieces and booklets. The way the Download N Go is scheduled each day we get more videos to watch a specific dolphin to learn about.
I did run across some very neat and funny things while double checking answers for the lapbook. One the kids needed to know the exact difference between flukes, dorsal fins, and flippers. The following is the most truthful thing I have ever read on Wikipedia 🙂
“The dorsal fin is probably best known as the visible sign of an approaching shark. If you see the dorsal fin of a shark, you should never try to swim away. No matter what you do, the shark will swim faster.”
That would be a big YES. hahaha I have to admit I would still try to swim away!
Another find was a video posted by Discovery Channel: A 2,000 dolphin “splash mob!”
This lapbook has cemented one thing in my daughter’s heart. She would like to swim with dolphins on her Make a Wish trip. Now she is super excited about the idea and wants to go this weekend. 🙂 Sorry honey but we live in West Virginia we can’t just gaunt off to the shore.
Today we started to be able to glue items into the lapbooks. Things like the vocabulary are not all done but well on the way. The holders can easily be glued in now. There are still items to be finished so 2 of my kids have chosen to wait until they have the whole lapbook items done before they start gluing things in.
This is one area where I can work a bit on the perfectionism that crops up in my beloved Aspie. A lapbook is free form and can be as creative or precise as the maker wants it to be. I work with my perfectionist to make things a bit more creative. I work with my ADHD child to make things more organized and neater.
Also this unit study was bought and all put together for me, but that’s not the only way you can do unit studies or lapbooks. I usually put together my own studies because I am cheap uhhh I mean frugal. A friend Marcy from her blog Ben and Me posted a very nice post about how to put together your own unit study.
