Are you thinking about lapbooking this year? I highly recommend it! Lapbooking can be a fabulous supplement or a whole unit study learning break from texts. I love to weaving lapbooks into our monthly schedule. It keeps things fresh and engages my children in topics that they love.
The kinetic portion of lapbooking also helps to get your kids fully involved. Here are a few quick tips to help your lapbooking immediately.
1) Use colored paper Many times children with special needs cannot color pictures or don’t want to. By printing on colored paper you keep the lapbook from looking plain.
2) Cut out the detailed pieces Many times our children do not have the fine motor skills to cut lapbooking pieces well. I cut the pieces that are very detailed or highly important to the lapbook. Then I leave other pieces to have them cut to encourage better cutting skills.
3) Glue sticks are less messy then liquid glue and dry faster. One caveat is that I find my sensory intense kids like the feeling of the glue stick in their mouth. So watch those chewers!
4) Use a stapler freely There were times that my child was not able to glue pieces down because of low tone hands. I pulled out the stapler and together we pushed down on the stapler to secure it in place.
