Crayons and coloring are a part of little kid life. But what happens when your littles have low tone hands? Crayons can be too hard leaving exhausted hands and frustrated kids. Pastels are easier to get a good spread of bright color without the tough pressure on your child’s hands. I love pastels because they have opened the world of coloring for some of my low tone hand kids.
I had a lesser brand of pastels that were so so. Then I bought a better brand with tools. LOVING the change.
I found a beautiful picture of the nativity on Pinterest. Followed it and was thrilled to find a friend’s blog HodgePodge. If you remember back in the summer I mentioned HodgePodge on Shark week art. Well she has a whole book full of Christmas art projects. Thankfully she posted this project for us all to try!
PS there is also a great Star Wars project on her blog. It’s the next one we are going to try.
So here we are starting the last week of our fall semester and we are sick. New lessons are not going to happen. I don’t want to stop homeschooling but I needed something easy and worth our time and effort. A nativity scene was perfect. We can talk about Jesus’ birth and create a beautiful art project.
It was such fun. The WHOLE family joined in from daddy on down!
Okay time to fess up we didn’t follow directions. We used oil pastels not chalk pastels. Reason being is oil pastels are easier on my kiddos low tone hands and have less grit. Even with that my daughter wanted to try a glove to stop the feeling of the pastel on her fingers.
Helping your child with gloves is a simple fix to allow them to use pastels. Maybe not a whole picture today but longer and working towards their own masterpiece some day!
With the holidays just around the corner, you are either planning to continue homeschooling by pushing through or with a lighter schedule, or you take the time off. Either way – my friends and I have you covered!
