Hello all! I just wanted to update you as to why the blog has been so slow recently. Usually I post several times a week. Recently however life, to be specific medical problems, have reared their ugly head.
I am not just some talking head, I live the special needs life. This time last year I found out that I had lupus. After starting my medicines for lupus I have been under control. Recently I had been having more problems that didn’t seem connected with the lupus.
First stop the PCP blood tests, a visit to the lupus specialist, more tests and finally a neurology appointment. My main problem is that I am having intermitent paralysed legs. Turns out that at some time in the past I have had at least one stroke! Worse the problems I am experiencing now are not related to that. I am showing signs of Multiple Sclerosis.
Time will tell what is the problem. I have more tests in the future. Meanwhile I am still homeschooling the kids.
God bless my wonderful kids. Today I had a second day of a migraine. It hurt to think. I pulled out all the books and sat there with my coffee gently guiding. I chose to pull out some worksheets and do review work. The kids did wonderfully then with it being such a great day I let them have extra basketball/nature walk/have fun outdoors time.
Thankfully I finally got some steroids to end the migraine! I have a plan in place in case the week was a loss in teaching standards. My husband has told me he would hold school on Saturday to teach only new material. That way if necessary I could then spend next week working on review again.
This works really well if you are in a special circumstance, such as a prolonged migraine or acute illness, perhaps cancer treatments. Have a schedule set so that you can with minimal effort continue learning and rely on short intense bursts of teaching to start new ideas. You could also elongate you year when this happens to ensure all the needed materials are covered.
One last thing if you are in need of just such a pattern I urge you to set goals. If you set goals of what the kids need to learn by end of fall. Then you know exactly what needs to be taught every Saturday. This helps you stay on track and not to get discouraged.
Lord bless you parents who chose to homeschool no matter the storms that face us. You are a light! God bless you my friends!
