I am so blessed. I am living my dream.
I was an only child. My sister and brothers all passed away as infants. Then my parents divorced. That left lots of alone time. The term latchkey kid should have been written on my forehead.
I lived in the country or small towns so I had lots of adventures. I would always bring along a play friend to talk to and dream with. My dream always had me in a home safe snug and with lots of family surrounding me.
God brought me that dream on a silver platter at BOOT CAMP! Yup that is where Chris and I met. At the check out of the commissary.
Life has lots of curve balls and interesting ups and downs. Like I said I am blessed.
For our final week of the fall quarter we did lots of review material. We temporarily took a break from my regularly scheduled homeschooling to dig deep into a handful of reviews. There is a huge upside to doing reviews I am obligated to work with the material a certain number of times. It’s a kind of accountability that I need sometimes. Right now with all the medical craziness going on this accountability worked great.
The kids are doing so well. I want to BRAG on how great they are! My oldest is on track to not only working her way through high school but also doing great things with her baby business on Twitch and Youtube. My son is making strides in many areas that last year where so tough. This year things are clicking! My 11 yr old is keeping up if not surpassing the high school work I am setting her to. She is flourishing in German with Middlebury Interactive Languages and she is already working on Geometry and American Literature. My two youngest are not on the same grade level but they love to work together. One on my right the other on my left. Both learning or refining reading skills. They are both working on math and language arts with an online program IXL that we are reviewing soon.
Science is a beautiful mix of several online programs and textbooks. As you can see from the pics above LOTS of fall projects and crafts as well. Frankly I am getting a bit snarled up in keeping track of who is learning what and on which program/textbook. That is a major to-do next week on Fall Break. No problem the work is there and saved I just need to get it organized in a manner I understand so I can tell hubby and our teacher next spring.
Remember it is MUCH better to take a break now to get things organized than it is to try to recreate what happened in the fall next spring when you face evals. Learned that the hard way!
Just so we don’t get to bored with life we had a super long appointment with neuro/genetics at the mito clinic. It is a 2 hour drive to get there. 6 hours of appointment for all 5 kids. 2 hour drive back home with a lump in your throat over what all we were told and must deal with in the coming weeks.
Cytochrome C Oxidase Deficiency and Leigh’s disease have been identified in our family as probable genetic causes of disease. There are also 2 other muscular diseases that show up as dominant and present Central Core disease, and Charcot Marie Tooth. With genetics the way it is we are awaiting confirmation genetic testing to see if all have this presentation or not.
No matter mitochondrial disease has progressed in all kids. There will be additional specialists added. Mobility assistive devices like shower chairs, wheel chairs and leg braces are now a must.
At how we are in the midst of a dining room makeover. Just a painting and new flooring. We are at the dusty fix the holes portion of prepping the walls. Drywall dust and asthma DO NOT MIX. ugh then the huge wet/dry vac broke. We had drywall dust on the floor all week and no one went into the dining room until daddy could come home and fix everything. Now I think we are on track to a clean home with fresh painted walls and a new hardwood floor. Easy to clean so we can keep allergens down to a minimum.
Today October 27th marks the first day of Fall Break. YEAH! One week to relax and do our fall cleaning
Now dear friends lets talk for a moment about this blog and the growing pains it has been going through. I am thrilled that things are changing and growing. That does not mean that I am turning my blog away from special needs homeschooling. No, I am enlarging it to embrace more families and more subjects that are dear to many of our hearts and family life.
First hubby is coming on board as a tech extraordinar and to post occasionally.
Second I am getting my newsletters up and running again. So if you haven’t signed up please do so HERE
Third I am adding in more Living items to the blog. How to save money on groceries. Gluten free recipes. How to make a home safe for a sleep walker… lots of hands on practical ideas.
This is all in accord with my vision of the blog and where it is going.
