I can’t homeschool I’m a single mom! I feel for you. I was raised in a divorced home. I often wonder how can I show you, my friends that you can still homeschool while single. You can make it working from home, WAHM, while homeschooling. You can find a place of balance and Flourish in your personal life, family life, and professional life! Mary Jo Tate has written this great book Flourish: Balancing for Homeschooling Moms to show you how you can do all those things. This easy to read and use book by Mary Jo Tate of Apologia Educational Ministries ~ (http://www.Apologia.com/) has helped me tackle my to-do lists and change them into DONE jobs.
Okay time to fess up I know I have a paperwork/job priority problem. Too many things clamoring for my attention and not enough me to go around. I didn’t even realize what my problem was until Mary Jo pointed it out. I am a list writer. I mean tons of lists. So many lists that and scraps of paper with ideas scrawled on them that have no organization and tend to get lost the second I let them down. That creates tons of paperwork or e-lists that I never see again. The actual ‘doing’ of the list wasn’t happening. Or at least it was not happening in a way that was prioritized and helpful to me and my family.
Flourish pointed out seven simple steps to begin to bring my life, our family life, back into focus. Because I am a mom with special needs and special needs children I was able to take away from this book a new level of peace and release the guilty that I tend to walk around with. If you were a single parent there is a section that speaks straight to your heart and where you are today. Are you a writer or WAHM then all throughout the book you will find tips, ideas, and encouragement to keep going. Smarter, more organized, prioritized (in a Godly way), and learning to be realistic with the gifts and time you have.
This book is for you mom. Whether you are single or not. Whether you are a writer, work at home mom or focused on homemaking. I believe you will find help with organization, homeschooling encouragement through the rough times, and even a large dose of kick in the pants <ehmm for those of us that are lost in our lists and not doing>.
When Mary Jo faced being a single homeschooling mom of 4 sons ages 9 years old down to a 6 month old she had to find a way to live. She worked through the ups and downs sharing them openly in her book Flourish: Balance for Homeschooling Moms. Don’t reinvent the wheel allow Mary Jo to share her hard earned well founded experience. I enjoyed reading this book and you see that pile of papers in the pic above…. It is going to organized and prioritized as to my and my family’s needs. I will conquer the paperwork beast!
