Mere Christianity is one of those books I have had in the top 5 To-Read list for years. I just never quite got there. In part because I felt that it was going to be a thick read. You know the type older language, deep meaning that you don’t want to miss so you slow way down. Now I am not saying I wanted to blow through the book but some help would be appreciated. Then when I heard and was offered a chance to review Mere Christianity Critical Analysis Journal by Stacy Farrell I was excited. This could be just what I was looking for.
This was a learning experience for me. I decided to use this book as my personal study. The journal is set up as a much deeper and meaningful guide than I have worked with before. Instead of a workbook format where you read then go and fill in the blanks and 20 minutes later you are done. Stacy Farrell has created a journal that encourages a more meaningful study of in which you have to work for these answers. The questions were either pulled from a close reading on the book and written in essay form or a personal opinion.

Did you know that Mere Christianity was a series of radio shows aired in Britain to give hope in the middle of World War II? Mere Christianity is not based on a particular denomination. It was author C.S. Lewis’ intent to talk about the core Christian beliefs that all Christians share and to encourage thought provoking discussion. The Journal does a fine job of continuing that ideal and for me enhanced the experience of reading Mere Christianity.
How could you use Mere Christianity Critical Analysis Journal in your life? You could easily use it as a personal study like I did. I could see how it would be much more exciting to use in a small group setting like your homeschool with teens (this would help teach critical thinking). Homeschool Adventure Co. the publisher of the Journal also suggests that you could use the it in co-ops, classrooms, Sunday school, small groups, and of course your family.
I enjoyed Mere Christianity Critical Analysis Journal. I do think I will be using the journal with my teens in their later learning years. The Journal helps you think about exactly what are your foundational beliefs and to be able to articulate them clearly. This is a wonderful tool to create a critical thinker that can stand on their own against the winds of the world.
