The Write Foundation makes language arts programs for the middle school and older group. This material is no frills, simple black and white worksheets. Which can be great for the easily distracted child. Not so engaging for a more visually engaging child.

For this review I got the choice of programs. I went strictly by the age range recommendations. We reviewed the Sentence to Paragraph Writing Level 1. My tech savvy middle schooler did not like the straight forward black and white format. I liked it because it helped the ADHD side by not providing distracting pictures. In the end she was “okay with it” She did learn from the solid lessons. This was not something that I would buy for my daughter not because it is bad more that it is not her style.
The student’s section comes as loose leaf worksheets so if you have a touchy feeling child like mine…have a three ring binder ready to put them away! The other issue I ran into was this program as for more prep time than I am use to. The program is not intuitive..meaning your teen cannot normally just read the directions and figure out what is expected. We found that most of the work needed the teacher’s workbook and directions. The teacher’s guide like most is written for a class room setting with an alter version presented for homeschooling. Frankly the slow time line was a bit much for us.
This would be great for a child that needs to work in a very step by step basis. Also teens that need less distractions would benefit from this program. This would not work so well for teens that are visual thinkers, who enjoy the pictures, color changes, etc to maintain interest.
