Have you found out that your child has a life threatening disease, terminal, or life shortening. There are a slew of ways to say it. Medical professionals often go out of there way to tap dance around the finality of what they are saying. In the end as a parent all you hear is death.
I have been there. My heart aches for you. My husband and I were told that our children had a genetic disease that would shorten their lives. What do you do with that kind of a bomb laid in your lap? Pain the kind that rips through your soul and leaves you breathless hit me. I began getting anxious, unwilling to let the kids out of my sight. I tried to hold everything up and make everything perfect on my own. Meanwhile my husband went to work and worked harder than ever. He came home and played all evening with the kids rather than help me up keeping my growing mountain of perfection. We were becoming a house divided.
We were caught in a very common cycle. My husband was grieving but as a man he tended to work it out rather than talk. As a woman I wanted everyone to feel better so I worked on upping the comfort level. We finally ran each other to exhaustion. We began talking and sharing our deepest fears.
We decided that God never intended us to deal with problems separately. Together in our differences we were made stronger. God designed the family to work together through every storm that comes.
This isn’t an easy subject but it needs to be addressed. Whether you homeschool or not, I hope to provide practical advice and encouragement to you in this time of need.
I hope in the coming days to talk about some issues that affect those of us with children in the fight of their life.
How much should our child know?
Miscarriage and stillbirth how to carry on.
Depression in you and your child
My marriage is flying apart at the seams
Why does homeschooling matter now?
If there are other areas that need to be addressed please feel free to tell me. I am not a professional. I am writing through experience and research. Please if you are feeling suicidal or self destructive call your pastor, a counselor, or go to your local ER where you can get some help. You are worthy and precious to the Lord please don’t hurt the life he has given you.
