Do you have a competitive child on your hands? Perhaps 3P Learning’s Mathletics can help you light a fire under your student. This online program is filled with ways to encourage and strengthen math skills for students K-12.
My two middle daughters ages 9 and 11 helped me review Mathletics. My 9 year old is on grade level at just finished 3rd grade and my 11 is advanced in high school math. With on child that clearly loves and excels at math and another that is ‘normal’ in math I thought this would be a nice way to show variation with Mathletics online program.
Mathletics boasts 4 million students in over 17,000 schools and homes around the world. There are multiple parts to this program. They are based around the testing your child takes when you open the account. There are also great little side trips into math like the Rainforest maths. You can connect online worldwide with other students. This is a worldwide program that comes with differing countries curriculum standards.
Mathletics is designed to meet your child in many ways:
ENGAGE- Mathematical gaming world used to help encourage and create a pleasant atmosphere for math.
TARGET- “1200 individual adaptive practice activities” I didn’t have time to try out all 1200 😉 but in going through the process to set up my children’s accounts and make them child specific I did see very nice adjustments to my child’s math needs.
DIAGNOSIS- Diagnostic testing along with reporting tools you will see in the parent’s page help you track your child’s progress and exactly what areas may need some extra oomph.
ASSESS- This is the goal making portion of the program. The program looks at the work your student is doing and how they are progressing to make an action plan, graph, and easy to see at a glance indicators of math knowledge.
REPORTS- This goes with the diagnosis portion. The reports are an ongoing way to track the learning curve or spot a problem.
FLUENCY- I would say this equates to mental math, agility of thinking and using math.
MOBILE- Mathletics has an app and is highly usable on multiple platforms. This is the same company that makes Reading Eggs (MEGA LOVE). Apps are not a new thing for them and I had no problems.
The parent’s page lets you peek in on the work your child is doing. I also got Weekly Reports. This will help me at the end of the year with progress reports.
While I understand this is a supplement we found that you had to know the math function in order to succeed. Such as one daughter had to simplify some fractions. She knew how to do it but had forgotten. The program will help a struggling student and show the problem worked out, but not how to get from point A to point B. Don’t misunderstand I do think that there is a lot of good to this program but you might want to try the FREE trial first to be sure this fits your child’s learning strengths.
Mathletics will give incentives for that competitive natured student. It will help you stay on grade/core level with assessment testing. You can see how long and to what level of quality your child spent on their math through the your teacher’s login. There are many places to visit on Mathletics and engaging material to keep a flexible reading child happy.
