We have been year round homeschoolers for several years now. This is planning week! I am taking extra care to document and detail this week because of my health. I think it will help my husband understand the how behind the lesson plan. I also hope this helps you understand how to create a schedule that works for your family as well.
Today’s big to-do was to section out what I already have and can be reused. Over a decade of homeschooling has left me with quite a bit of material. I am also finally at a place in my understanding of what we will teach the kids that I tossed material that we disagree with. Such as science and social studies texts that are very culturally based and in many ways anti-Christian. Over the years I have been given public school textbooks ‘so we know what a real textbook looks like.’ Yes, you guessed it well meaning friends that have kids in public school are the gift givers. I appreciate they think about us and care enough to share freely with us. However the learning material at the local school is a major reason why we homeschool. Soooooo back to the materials I know and love and a few newbies that look very promising!
The other big thing today was memories. Finding K and 1st grade books that will not be used again. sniff, sniff
It’s funny how when you are working through books they ‘disappear’ come time to work on that subject. When you pull out the books to look over them suddenly the whole family has to crowd into the room and talk about the year we read that book, or did that experiment, or went to the Mississippi and it was as HUGE as the book said! haha
I delight in this aspect of homeschooling. We are a part of each other’s story.
DAY 2 Creating the Structure of Our Homeschooling Life
Rebecca from Hip Homeschooling says
Man, this post just made me super sad. Sigh. I can’t believe how fast it is all going! I made so many mistakes in the beginning, I wish I had known from the start to lower my expectations, take it slow, enjoy every minute! Ok, I might go cry now 😉 (btw we have that abeka reader that looks so well loved).
Thanks so much for linking up at Favorite things Friday! Make sure to add a link back or button to be eligible to be featured, I’d love to see you on my blog! Hope to see you again this week!
