Hello all! This is a food allergy blog hop that I started. My kids are all on restricted diets. We have been gluten free for 5 years now. We also have to be soy free and red dye free. It can be daunting but the outcome is worth it!
So how did we start? After seeing a neurologist that promptly diagnosed my daughter with autism she looked at my son who had to come with us and said he is next. What! He was strong willed but autism? She was absolutely right when we filled out all the paperwork it was screamingly apparent we had two children with autism. We went to a developmental dr. He had a crazy idea that they kids were being affected by food allergies.
We tested them and then started on a restricted diet. We removed all dairy, cold turkey! Then I started going through my cabinets for all the flour/gluten based products. We had thrown all them out by the end of the first week. The short two weeks off of dairy showed us we were on the right track.
By the end of the second week my daughter’s (Smiley) seizures were not as frequent. She was sleeping a bit better. The other kids were also showing slight signs of improvement but frankly they were still addicted to their allergens.
The test came back at the end of the second week. It was clear that we desperately needed to go off gluten, dairy and two of the kids had serious soy issues.
As we were blessed with two more children from that point. They too were tested and they too had problems with allergens. Through this testing we even found out that 3 of us, 2 kids and me, have Celiac Disease.
So that is why we are on restricted diets! We eat to fuel our bodies. We just need slightly specialized fuel. What is your food allergen? How did you find out?
