Today’s it’s time for a trip to Australia. Land of strange animals, the ten deadliest snakes, and a rich highly interesting culture. This unit was a hit from the title on. The littlest ones got excited at idea of learning about kangaroos. My son who is in 3rd grade got interested in the venomous animals in Australia. My oldest daughter walked around trying to talk like an Aussie.
I now know that a lolly is candy in Australia. Neat!
Here is the break down of the days in the study.
Day 1: Where on Earth Is Australia?
Day 2: Some of the Special Places in Australia
Day 3: A Bit of Australian History
Day 4: Cool Things to Know About Australia
Day 5: Fun and Games in Australia
I was a bit concerned that the first day of geography based work would dampen their enthusiasm. But Amanda throws in interesting videos and facts to keep the interest high. Such as we found out that while we were learning about Canberra they had the SAME temperature but they were all sleeping. It was 2 am there. Too bad I couldn’t convince the toddler it was 2 am here and take a nap. lol tried didn’t work
Download N Go is having a map giveaway you might be interested in. They are giving away 2 maps of Australia that are lamenated.
Along with the study you get Amanda recommends a large list of books. You can go to the local library and find at least some of these books to augment you studies. There are great online videos for the kids to watch and learn.
We added Finding Nemo to the week and lots of kangaroo coloring pages for the little ones. My oldest loved some old shows of the Crocodile Hunter as he highlighted the wonder of Australia.
